Are Your Children Safe?
Are your children safe? Car crashes are a leading cause of death for children 1 to 13 years old. Many deaths and injuries could be prevented by proper use of car seats and boosters seats. Child Passenger Safety Week, is September 18-24 is a national campaign designed to educate parents on the importance of using safety devices properly and reduce morbidity and mortality.
The sheer number and variety of both car models and child seat manufacturers can make it extremely confusing. Most new cars offer Lower Anchor and Tether for Children (LATCH) systems to secure seats in the backseat.
Be certain your children are safe before you drive. These are some resources that can help. We especially recommend taking advantage of the child safety seat inspection stations.
• Safe Kids Worldwide publishes easy to follow safety tips
• Child Safety Seat Inspection Stations (search by location)
• The National Highway Safety Transportation Association (NHTSA) publishes ratings for seats based on safety, ease of installation and many other resources for parents.
Take time to make sure that your child protection devices are highly rated and installed properly.
