EV9 Earns Car and Driver Award Alongside Telluride
The all-new 2024 EV9 has locked down another award in its first year on sale. Alongside the 2024 Telluride, the upcoming electric SUV has been named to Car and Driver’s 2024 10 Best Trucks and SUVs list. For the Telluride, this is the fifth consecutive year the vehicle has earned this award. The EV9 previously earned the honor of the “Luxury” category in the German Car of the Year 2024 competition.
“We have harmoniously integrated the Telluride’s proven formula into the EV9’s innovative all-electric architecture, positioning it as a captivating EV option that’s poised to mirror the Telluride’s legacy of success,” said Steven Center, COO & EVP of Kia America. “This is a momentous achievement and a testament to the extraordinary skill of our engineering, design, and product development teams.”
With a striking exterior design, a rich interior, space for up to 7 passengers, powerful towing capability, and DC fast charging, the EV9 takes its role as an SUV seriously. Even as electric vehicles have become more ubiquitous in the market, SUVs are few and far between, and even fewer are those with the towing power of the EV9. The All-Wheel Drive trims of the EV9 come packed with 379 horsepower capability and up to 516 lb-ft torque.
Available in Light, Wind, Land, and GT-Line trims and offered in two battery sizes and rear-wheel drive or dual-motor AWD configurations, the EV9 is rated at an EPA-estimated all-electric-range of 304 miles on the light Long Range RWD. Altogether this lends a powerful towing capacity of 5,000 lbs. Additionally, the EV9’s self-leveling rear suspension and dedicated trailering mode can make it an apt adventure companion, ready to tackle the road ahead.
The charging capabilities of the EV9 also make it worthy of this honor. The Ultrafast 800v charging compatibility in every EV9 will charge your battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 24 minutes using 350 kW DC fast chargers. This ultra-fast power intake can add approximately 100 miles range in 10 minutes. This makes the EV9 the go-to choice for eco-friendly SUVs on road trips.
“Kia did an excellent job designing the cabin for the EV9’s role as a family bus with lots of room and—in plusher trim levels—plentiful equipment,” said Car and Driver European Editor Mike Duff. “The EV9 GT-Line is also ridiculously fast for what it is, dispatching the 60-mph benchmark in just 4.5 seconds, 2.2 seconds ahead of the top 291-hp Telluride.”
Car and Driver notes that the EV9 is a “pioneer in the electric vehicle’s transition from unusual to commonplace.” The recognition on this list proves that the EV9 is ready for a market of both early adopters and everyday drivers with a family of 5 to move around town.
