Before you are faced with an emergency make sure your car is sufficiently equipped to change a flat tire.

Tools

  1. Spare tire. We recommend making sure that your spare tire is properly inflated whenever you have your tires rotated.
  2. Jack and lug wrench
  3. Flashlight
  4. Wheel wedges
  5. Reflective triangles or flares
  6. Flat tire repair kit

Safety

  1. If you get a flat tire, slowly drive to a safe location such as a shoulder, side street or parking lot
  2. Ideally, you should be on flat ground not an incline
  3. Post a flare or emergency triangle
  4. Place a wedge under a tire as an extra precaution

Step-by-Step

  1. Loosen the lug nuts first
  2. Raise the car using the jack
  3. Remove lug nuts by hand and put them in a safe spot where you cannot lose them
  4. Remove the tire
  5. Install spare
  6. Hand tighten lug nuts
  7. Lower the vehicle slowly
  8. Use the lug wrench to tighten the lug nuts. You need to use a criss-cross pattern ie. Tighten one and then tighten the nut directly opposite
