Kia Made in America
Kia Georgia is the only Kia manufacturing plant in the U.S. and the only automaker in Georgia. The plant covers 2,200 acres with a total investment of $1.8 Billion. The plant manufactures four bestselling Kia models: the Telluride, Sorento, Sportage, and K5.
Kia Georgia produces 340,000 vehicles a year, operating three shifts, 24 hours a day. Kia Georgia ships vehicles to sales markets around the globe including Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Pacific nations, and of course to U.S. Kia dealerships.
Like all automotive manufacturers, Kia Georgia has been impacted by the semiconductor shortage. Semiconductors are essential components in a vehicle’s electrical systems. CBS-affiliated station, WRBL serving west-central Georgia and east-central Alabama ran a story recently detailing the problem. We thought it defined the issue very well.
Kia Country, General Manager Steve Appelbaum said. “We are proud that our vehicles are built in the U.S. and come from a neighboring state. We feel a kinship with the folks that work at Kia Georgia. The chip shortage is real, but they struggle with other component shortages as well. The folks at Kia Georgia work tirelessly to plan and maximize production on a daily basis. Demand for the models that come from Georgia is strong as they are all popular designs.”
We applaud American production and ingenuity in the face of incredible obstacles. If you’re looking for an award-winning, Kia Made in America vehicle visit us at 2361 Savannah Highway in Charleston.
