Kia Unveils Emotive Driving Technology
Kia Motors will unveil emotive driving technology with an interactive exhibit “Space of Emotive Driving” at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) January 8-11.
The exhibit will feature:
- Real-time Emotion Adaptive Driving (E.A.D.), the automotive industry’s first technology which converged human senses-oriented in-cabin environment control with AI-based emotional intelligence
- Virtual touch-type(V-Touch) gesture control and music-response vibration seats
- SEED Car, a potential solution for urban micro-mobility
Kia is looking ahead to a future where autonomous driving is the norm to improve the passenger experience. The R.E.A.D. System can optimize and personalize a vehicle cabin by analyzing a driver’s emotional state in real-time through AI-based bio-signal recognition technology which uses sensors to read facial expressions, heart rate, and electrodermal activity. It then tailors the interior environment in response to the assessment related to the five senses.
V-Touch, a world first application employs a 3D camera to monitor users’ eyes and fingertips, allowing occupants to manage the cabin environment including lighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and entertainment systems.
Another feature will offer music-response vibration seats where occupants and “feel” their favorite songs as well as listen to them
Kia’s research and collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab’s Affective Computing Group brought the exhibit to life. Visitors will be able to experience vehicle technology that recognizes their physiological emotions and witness sensory controls that react in real-time.
A vision for future smart-city mobility
Kia is also presenting a potential solution for smart-city mobility at CES 2019 with its ‘SEED Car’ concept, a four-wheel electric cycle with a range of 100 km (62 miles) based on a pedal-electric hybrid system, requiring pedal input from the driver but with a high degree of electric power assistance to make it effortless. For longer journeys, the ‘SEED Car’ is housed within the ‘BIRD Car’ – an autonomous shuttle vehicle capable of traveling further than the four-wheel cycle’s range capabilities.
Kia will operate 15-minute guided tours to give attendees a more in-depth understanding of the new technologies on display. You can experience from a distance by following online.
