Vehicle Suspension

December 4th, 2019 by

The focus of this post is vehicle suspension, something you probably do not think about, but critically important. Your vehicle’s suspension system ties the wheels together and controls steering and the comfort of your ride.

There are dozens of components and any one of them could fail causing a range of issues including:

  • Stiffness in steering
  • Alignment problems
  • Tire wear
  • Stability, control & traction
  • Ride comfort

The major components of the suspension are shocks, springs, bars, and dampers which work together to absorb force and take corners effectively. Shocks and struts are key important for both your safety and comfort.  A shock absorber or strut does exactly what the name implies—it reduces the impact of changing terrain as you drive and keeps your car stable. Your car has one located near each wheel.

During every service visit we routinely check suspension components as part of our Multi-point Inspection including power steering fluids, shocks and struts. If you hear popping, squealing or creaking noises or it seems that you are experiencing a rougher ride, it could very well be a suspension issue.
