Buyer Beware: Online Auto Parts

September 2nd, 2015 by

The online automotive parts business is booming. But, buyer beware. Everyone from Amazon to eBay to Craigslist has skin in the game and you can find both new and used parts. You may see discounts of 50% or more advertised. But what are you really getting for half the price?

Unless you are mechanically savvy, it is easy to make a mistake and order an incorrect part. And if it is not an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) part, it may not fit properly and probably does not come with a warranty. Recently we had a customer who had lost her electronic key fob and ordered a replacement online. Not only did it not work, it was non-refundable and she had to order the right key from us. We take time to verify that any parts ordered for you are specifically made for your car and use your VIN number as the authority control.

When you order online, you may not always know exactly whom who are buying from. Amazon is not always Amazon and in addition to the loss you will take on shipping and return costs, you may find that the company you actually ordered from has return policies that are different from Amazon’s. All of which results in a loss of time and money.

There are reputable major auto parts retailers with online ordering that will help you order the correct part and stand behind their products. As cars have become increasingly more sophisticated, the imperative for OEM parts has increased especially for critical components. Although dealerships have a reputation for higher prices, you are getting more for your dollar that may save you over the long haul.

Kia Country sells only OEM parts and accessories. They come with a 12,000 mile/12 month warranty and are installed by factory trained and certified technicians. That guarantee and expertise provides peace of mind when you are on the road.

We have nothing against DIYers, but with automotive parts the buyer beware adage is especially true.

If you need parts or accessories for your car, please contact our Parts Department and they will be sure you get the right part at a fair price.
