What makes a perfect parts operation? People. Kia Country’s Parts team had a record-breaking March. Given a difficult economy and a relatively new team, it is an outstanding achievement. Meet Justin Mallard, Parts Manager and Maureen “Mo” Alborez, a Parts Specialist who took the helm less than three months ago. Some people have mojo; we have MOJU.
Justin is an experienced Parts Manager with eight years under his belt, but new to Kia. Mo has spent five years as a Service Consultant, but has wanted to transition to parts for some time and is excited about the opportunity after a recent move from California.
The automotive parts business is competitive, fast-paced and stressful to say the least. It takes a special kind of person, specific characteristics and work strengths to be successful. First, intelligence is a must. There are over 10,000 parts and accessories in the Kia catalog to learn. Understanding basic mechanics and automotive technology is also essential.
Competitive is an understatement. The aftermarket automotive parts business is booming. Online shops seem to crop up daily. National retailers and franchises can threaten with purchasing power for parts and advertising.
In addition, the parts people have three unique and distinct customer bases that are equally important: Kia service customers/Kia service technicians, Kia retail customers (DIYers), and wholesale parts customers that can be either national chains or small independent service and body shops.
How do the parts people manage success in such an environment? Knowledge, integrity and a commitment to excellence. Justin said, “I love being here because customer satisfaction is a Kia priority and Kia Country is a small, family business where people actually care about each other.”
Product quality is also a factor. As vehicles have become more sophisticated and technologically advanced, the value of OEM products engineered for specific models becomes increasingly important. Kia also offers a 12 month/12,000-mile warranty on all Genuine Kia Parts and Accessories.
Justin and Mo have ambitious goals for the department including revenue growth, expanding our wholesale parts business and improving organization and communication throughout all levels of operations. They are excited about the possibilities and look forward to sharing their expertise and enthusiasm with staff and customers.
